Background of the Study
Industrial growth is a key driver of economic development in many regions, and in Okene Local Government Area (LGA) of Kogi State, industrialization has the potential to transform local economies. However, the growth of industries in Okene is influenced by its geopolitical location within Kogi State and its proximity to major urban centers like Lokoja and Abuja. Geopolitical factors such as regional political alliances, transportation infrastructure, and local governance structures play a crucial role in determining the availability of resources, incentives for investment, and policy support for industrial development (Ibrahim & Usman, 2023). This study seeks to assess how the geopolitical location of Okene LGA affects industrial growth, considering both opportunities and challenges posed by its regional context.

1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite Okene's strategic location in Kogi State, industrial growth in the area has been slow. Local political factors, inadequate infrastructure, and regional power dynamics have all played a role in hindering industrial development. This study will examine how the geopolitical location of Okene LGA has influenced its industrial growth and identify barriers to further development.

1.3 Objectives of the Study

  • To assess the impact of Okene's geopolitical location on industrial growth in the area.

  • To examine how regional political and infrastructural factors influence industrial development in Okene.

  • To recommend strategies for enhancing industrial growth in Okene LGA by leveraging its geopolitical advantages.

1.4 Research Questions

  • How does Okene's geopolitical location influence industrial growth in the region?

  • What role do regional political and infrastructure factors play in shaping industrial development in Okene?

  • How can Okene LGA capitalize on its location to enhance industrial growth?

1.5 Research Hypothesis

  • Okene's geopolitical location significantly influences the growth of industries in the region.

  • Political and infrastructural challenges within Okene LGA hinder industrial growth.

  • Addressing geopolitical factors such as regional political cooperation and infrastructure development will promote industrial growth in Okene.

1.6 Significance of the Study
This study will provide useful insights for policymakers, local government officials, and business investors seeking to promote industrial development in Okene. By understanding the role of Okene’s geopolitical location in shaping industrial growth, the study will help guide the development of policies that maximize its economic potential (Ibrahim & Usman, 2023).

1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on Okene LGA, Kogi State, with a particular emphasis on its industrial growth. Limitations include challenges in accessing data due to the decentralized nature of industrial policy implementation in the region.

1.8 Operational Definition of Terms

  • Geopolitical Location: The political, economic, and infrastructural factors associated with a specific geographic region that influence its development.

  • Industrial Growth: The increase in the number of industries, their capacity, and the economic output of an industrial sector.

  • Okene Local Government Area: A region in Kogi State, Nigeria, with significant potential for industrial development but facing various challenges related to its geopolitical location (Ibrahim & Usman, 2023).
